I’ve been excited about art since I could hold a crayon! I sketched and painted throughout my childhood, then continued my artistic journey at American River College, then Sacramento State where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art. Since then, I’ve worked as a self-employed artist and licensed paint contractor, specializing in large, hand-painted murals for homes and businesses.

I discovered my love for mural painting when I painted artwork on the walls of our children’s nursery, transforming their room into a magical place. Mural art is unique as it is painted directly on the walls and can encompass any theme you can imagine. This inspired my mural painting business, first as Fanciful Walls, and now Katy Hardeay Murals & Decorative Painting.

For over 25 years I’ve painted murals in homes and businesses in the Sacramento region, transforming walls or entire rooms into custom works of art. Specializing in landscapes, themes for children, and trompe l’oeil, I enjoy painting nature and animals, using a subdued palette. I work directly with my clients to design murals that complement a room’s decor and enhance its purpose.

Residential projects have encompassed every room of a home, with murals and decorative paintings from a small niche in a foyer to full-room mural encompassing all walls and ceiling! My children’s murals convey the magical feeling of walking into a storybook.

Commercial projects include hospitals, medical offices, museums, government buildings, daycare centers, children’s boutiques, churches, restaurants, businesses and libraries. Specializing in themes for children, I have designed and executed the brand theme for several pediatric medical and dental practices.

Art is pretty much a part of everything I do. In addition to mural painting, I also teach art to students from 3rd to 12th grade, facilitate group art lessons for adults and kids, and work at a retail art supply store.

An art lover throughout my life, I simply love to paint. I believe in creating original artwork that brings lasting joy to my clients. I strive to transform a room into an experience the viewer can feel part of. Mural painting is challenging and rewarding and satisfies my desire to create, which is why I’m so passionate about my work.
